I'm taking a stance. The Gilmore Girls revival is coming up, and, well, I think it's about time we discuss who Rory should be with––when considering her exes, of course.
Our souls have been aching for this moment since the abrupt and unsatisfying ending to the series in 2007. (Seriously, that whole Lorelai-standing-in-the-middle-of-the-road-staring-at-Luke-thing is NOT a good closure. Thank goodness we have Amy Sherman-Palladino back!)
Since the announcement in January, my circle's been buzzing with speculation about whether or not Luke and Lorelai are actually together, who Rory's with, whatever happened to Sookie and Jackson, and how Emily is doing now that Richard is gone (I'm assuming you saw the trailer, and OMG, here come the waterworks).
I haven't run into much debate about whether or not we want Lorelai and Luke together (although I am still heartbroken over her split up with Max, sigh). But where I do run into feisty text arguments is whether Rory should be with Jess or Logan. (Dean lost his suitor privileges when he became a d-bag. Also, we got a tip he's not the guy.)
So, I felt it was my duty to contribute a solid 3-point argument of why, when it comes to Rory's selection of soulmate contenders, she should pick Logan.
1. Logan's a Heartthrob
The word "heartthrob" isn't used here lightly. Everything the word entails, sums up Logan. His physique, mystique, and chic sense of style is everything our shallow-minded 16 year-old-selves need to fall head over heels into the hormone-driven fantasies we had in high school. Wow, sorry, I got awkward there. Anyways...
Logan Huntzberger's sandy blonde hair, piercing stare, and honey-dropping smile was the best thing that happened to us watching Rory at Yale. And you'd think he was a janitor with all the times he swept us off our feet (you loved that pun, admit it). Remember the time he decided to let Rory into the Life and Death Brigade's weekend camping adventure?
Or how about the time he saved the school paper with his last-minute smooth-talking of the printer while saving his and Rory's date by having bagged lunch secretly stashed under their desks for when they finished? (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, watch this clip.)
Logan is everything we want in a TV heartthrob: good looks, smarts, wild nature, and a helpless romantic. He's the whole package––and that's something neither Dean or Jess can claim. (Ugh, why am I still talking about Dean?!)
2. Logan's Loaded
You shouldn't be surprised I brought this up because, well, we are letting ourselves be shallow teenagers in this TV romance, right? But it's more than that; a big part of why Rory and Logan were attracted to each other was because they are similar in so many ways.
A big part of Lorelai and Rory's occasional rifts were caused by Lorelai's inability to reconcile with the fact that Rory wants the life she so desperately ran away from. Rory gravitated towards the private schools, professional success, and social statures. And Logan understands her, and supports her, and has the ability to TREAT HER WELL. (That's a swipe at you, Jess.)
Just remember this episode?! Before Mitchum shows up, it was THE BEST VALENTINE'S TRIP EVAAAAAA!!!
3. Logan Loves Rory
DO I REALLY NEED TO EXPLAIN THIS?! HE PROPOOOOOOOOSED!
And that's my non-in-depth rant on why Rory needs to get back together with the hot Loganator in the revival. But I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't. I'm just glad we get to see him––and everyone else––again! (Although, I could totally do without seeing Dean. And Jess. Blah.)
So, tell me. Who are you rooting for in the revival? Are you Team Dean, Jess, or Logan?
